Specialists in equine and canine osteopathic treatment in the Channel Islands

About me
Rebekah Le Ray M.Ost, PGAOCert
I am a fully insured and registered human and animal osteopath with over 8 years of experience working within manual therapy.
I was born and raised in Guernsey. I completed my Masters degree in Osteopathy at the University College of Osteopathy, London (formerly British School of Osteopathy) in 2020.

I completed my post graduate Animal Osteopathy training with Stuart McGregor, an acknowledged world authority on animal biomechanics and osteopathic treatment, at the Osteopathic Centre for Animals. During my training, I worked with animals in a various of settings, from race horses in training to pony club ponies to happy hackers.
With both human and animal patients, I am a firm believer in looking at the body as a whole, rather than focusing just on the area of dysfunction. I focus on a holistic, patient centred approach and believe that the wellbeing of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly.
In my spare time, I can be found outside with my 2 year old son and my Shiba Inu called Minnie.
I undertake regular continuous professional development both on and off island. I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and Institute of Osteopathy (iO).

What to expect during a treatment
1
Veterinary Permission
It is a legal requirement to gain consent from your vet prior to your horse being treated by us. We can obtain consent on your behalf or alternatively you can download and send the following form to your vet directly.
2
Case History
During your visit, we’ll take the time to discuss your animal's relevant medical history along with your aims and ambitions for their care. We believe in understanding your goals to provide the best support for your animal's wellbeing.
3
Bio-Mechanical Assessment
A comprehensive bio-mechanical assessment will be conducted, involving detailed observation and analysis of your horse in various positions including standing, walking, trotting, and turning. While not mandatory, it may also be advantageous to observe the horse being lunged or ridden to gather additional insights. This thorough approach ensures we understand your horse's movement patterns and overall biomechanics effectively.
4
Hands On Examination
Refined palpation skills will be used to physically examine muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons in order to identify any areas of dysfunction, imbalance, restrictions or pain.
5
Treatment
After a thorough examination and interpretation of findings, the most appropriate osteopathic techniques will be selected in order to tailor treatment to your animal effectively.
6
Aftercare and Advice
We provide full aftercare and advice tailored specifically for your animal. You'll receive guidance on beneficial stretches and a basic understanding of your horse's anatomy during treatment. This knowledge will empower you to train your animal effectively, optimising its biomechanics and promoting a longer, healthier career.
